Workshops Overview: Development Communications In the early days of development communication, one of the pioneers in the field, Wilbur Schramm, was able to persuade the UNDP to include a communications component in all of its development projects.
Despite the explosion in communications technology, few of today’s development projects now contain such an explicit provision for communication. Few students of development receive training on integrating communications with project design and on how to use the new media to support development objectives. DevCom Mentor Roy Colle's new online book provides an excellent overview of the entire subject. Advocacy and Interventions: Readings in Communication and Development Published in 2007 by Internet-First University Press at Cornell Univiersity, the full volume can be downloaded without charge. (More details available below.)
The Development Communications Workshop was established as a resource to help engage students in the subject and to improve their skills in using the new technology effectively. Through the links below, DevCom Mentors share their knowledge of the subject.
